RIT SPEX Rover

I served as the chief engineer of the SPEX Rover team for one year, after being mechanical team lead for three years before that. We built a mars rover to compete in the University Rovers Challenge, which takes place in the rocky Utah desert. See some of the technical work I have completed for the team:

Automatic Hydraulic Press

This is the final result of my Multidisciplinary Senior Design project. My team was tasked with converting a manual 24 ton lab pellet press to automatic operation, to automatic operation in order to assist researchers working on solid state battery technology. I led the design and fabrication of a hydraulic power unit to supply hydraulic pressure to the press, as well as modifications to the press to allow it to interface with the hydraulic unit.

I design and machine custom aluminum pens on my 1949 South Bend 9A Metal Lathe.

Machine Learning / Computer Vision

I have worked on several machine learning models, including an autoencoder trained on art images as a learning exercise, a 3D sparse autoencoder model, and a YOLO computer vision object detection model implemented on a Jetson Orin Nano.
